At a Relentless Pace

On the one hand, I have no idea what it would be like for a professional to do comics most every waking hour. He'd get up in the morning, go to work drawing comics, and not stop until he'd finished all the pages he had to. Like in Japan, for example, professional comic artists have to put together 19 pages every single week, drawn, inked, lettered and toned. Sure, they have three or four guys helping them do it, but that's ... that's not what I'm doing. I can't imagine that.

On the other fin, I work for a living at another job and it allows me a great deal of freedom, in addition to a health plan. But at this pace it will take me approximately 12 more years to complete this project. I don't know how to get where I want to be from here, so ...

Comic transcript

Crimebuster reads the brutal details from the crime report. In panel one we see a black woman surrounded by three white men in sports uniforms. The woman says "What are you doing? Let me go?" and the tallest white man, #41, says "Sweetheart, you can't leave."

Crimebuster continues reading from his parking spot at the rest stop, saying "The victim stated she tried to leave and the three males held her arms and legs and sexually assaulted her orally, anally, and vaginally."

Taking a breath, Crimebuster then says "The victim stated she was hit, kicked, and strangled during the assault and she attempted to defend herself, but was overpowered. The victim reported she was sexually assaulted for an approximate 30 minute time period by the three males."

There's a silent panel as Crimebuster gazes at the scenery, his faithful monkey Squeeks looking at him questioningly.

Crimebuster starts driving again in his 1942 Ford. He says "Well, that's certainly an awful thing if it went down the way the police report said."

Crimebuster drives through the morning. It's foggy, but bright as the wind from his car resettles the grass in an unploughed field. He thinks "First I'll try to talk to the suspects, and then I'll hit the hospital and see the results of the rape kit."

And then Crimebuster is at the scene of the crime, the off-campus lacrosse house. As he parks his car, he sees something that shocks him deeply!
